When spring is at its loveliest, we present Gershwin’s sensational Piano Concerto in F with pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet. In addition, we hear the world premiere of Tobias Broström’s Symphony No. 2, commissioned by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. This dazzling evening begins with springtime energy and culminates in magic.
George Gershwin’s rhythmic Piano Concerto in F was composed in 1925, and as always, Gershwin is full of energy and jazz references. Sensational French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet has the full spectrum of colours needed to capture them.
Composer Tobias Broström is known for his rhythmically powerful music. In 2022, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra premiered his first symphony, and now we get to hear the sequel. Here, the entire orchestral apparatus is set in motion. A sense of movement and transformation runs throughout the work, and sounds shift like light across a landscape.
Conductor for the evening is Andrey Boreyko, previously successful director of the Warsaw Philharmonic.
The previously announced conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali has unfortunately been forced to cancel his appearance due to illness.
