Jazz legends like Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and Duke Ellington all wrote immortal classics that gave Hollywood its mythical gloss in the 50s and 60s. Vince Mendoza leads the Gothenburg Symphony, Bohuslän Big Band and saxophonist Joe Lovano in a unique fusion.
Get on the wall! What would the fight between cops and gangsters be in the thriller The French Connection without Don Ellis’ music? Duke Ellington created the same dense tension in Analysis of a Murder, and Miles Davis set the tone for French New Wave cinema. Tonight you get to experience unforgettable film music from some of jazz’s greatest, together with the Gothenburg Symphony and the Bohuslän Big Band.
Arranger Vince Mendoza is certainly not just anyone. The versatile composer and conductor has collaborated with artists such as Joni Mitchell, Sting, Elvis Costello, Joe Zawinul, Björk and many more. Over the years, he has won no less than six Grammy Awards. He last visited Gothenburg’s Concert Hall in 2022 with the Nordic Jazz concert.
Bohuslän Big Band is one of Sweden’s most prominent big bands who have also had a series of successful collaborations with international jazz giants: Gregory Porter, Carla Bley, Joe Lovano, Nils Landgren – and not least Vince Mendoza. Now they meet the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in a thrillingly unique fusion together woth saxophonist Joe Lovano.
The concert is also played at Vara Konserthus 19 April.

Take a seat in the Great Hall one hour before the concert begins and learn more about the music you will soon experience! You will get the stories behind the music, knowledge of the composers and own reflections about the classical pieces. The introduction is made by Sven-Eric Dahlberg and last for about 30 minutes, it is free and free seating in the hall. Warm welcome!
