Scottish composer Helen Grime aims to create a new sound world that is unique to each piece. She is drawn to long, expressive lines and rich harmonies. Grime composed this horn concerto specifically for the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra’s Alec Frank-Gemmill, one of Europe’s leading soloists on his instrument, who always adds a touch of shimmer and sensuality to the music.
Helen Grime’s work was most recently performed in Gothenburg in 2024, when her Trumpet Concerto, night-sky-blue, was played by Håkan Hardenberger.

Conductor Eun Sun Kim, from South Korea, is chief conductor of the San Francisco Opera. She expertly guides the Gothenburg Symphony through Korngold’s only completed symphony, composed in 1952. Adventurous melodies and sizzling love themes can be heard here, as in the film score for which Korngold became so famous.
